River Svitava. The greater part of the city is situated on a slope above the left bank of Svitavy. The first mention of the local village (today's Old Blansko) on the right bank of Svitava appears in the Chronicles of the Canon of Vysehrad and binds to the year 1136, when the property was conducted sharp (in the background but mainly political) dispute over the right to build a church in Blansko between the Bishop of Olomouc Henry Zdík appanage prince Brno and Wroclaw. Blansko with other settlements became the property of the bishopric of Olomouc and its holders to receive this product as a fief. The center of this manor became the second half of the 13th Blansek century castle, located east of Blansko.

In 1277 he founded the Olomouc Bishop Bruno of Schauenburg on the opposite side of the river a new settlement, which, as the New Blansko later became the core of the city.
